History: His Pre-Cactoid Jim history. As Cactoid Jim.
Personality:
“Cactoid” Jim Lyons is an interesting person. He has selflessly saved the planets of both Earth and Mars on numerous occasions without the slightest bit of hesitation or fear. He is completely selfless, willing to throw himself into any situation, no matter how little time to prepare he has, or how impossible it may seem at the time, which is proven first when he was still James Lyons, pitcher in what was thought to be the last World Series in human history. He got fed up with the Grey martians that had invaded, and he decided to throw peanuts at them, and when that was determined to be the weakness of the martians, he rallied humanity around him. Another good example of this is when he risked his life as an escort, just so that Sparks Nevada could have a weekend off.
Cactoid Jim is also kind, almost to the point of being disingenuous. He always looks on the bright side of things, and considers himself to just be the type that acts on the ideas of everyone else, and will always give credit to the person who even gave the smallest kernel of the idea. He knows that it's more important that the job get done, than to argue about who gets credit for what. It's pretty easy to say that Cactoid Jim is the kindest man on Mars. A prime example of his kindness is the fact that, despite the fact that he and Croach the Tracker did all of the work when a combining alien robot landed on Mars to attempt to destroy the planet, Jim still gave all of the credit to Sparks Nevada, because it was his idea to use the Marshal department's own combining robot, and using Sparks' strategy of using the left leg to kick the robot into submission. Another good example of this is from back when Jim first arrived on Mars, right after his ship fell through the time hole. Cactoid Jim noticed that there were other people in a far worse position than him on the Red Planes, and so he just decided to help them, rather than to spend his efforts trying to find a way back to his home time, and provided his aid to all who needed it, be they human, martian, or robot.
Aside from being kind, Cactoid Jim is also charismatic. He's handsome, charming, and, as previously stated, extremely kind. It's no wonder that Jim was able to win the election for Mayor on Mars nearly unanimously. Jim is just able to use his charm and his panache to make people want to do better, and because of this, they are better. His charisma has also made him a legend in not only his own time, but two others, starting out as a beloved baseball player, and then becoming an Astronaut twice, before he finally arrived in 3012. The best example of this is when he, after realizing that becoming President of Earth would turn him evil, used his charm to get the people of earth to elect his Campaign Director, the cyborg Chicky Sullivan, to the presidency, despite the distrust that most of Earth felt for cyborgs.
Something else to consider about Cactoid Jim is his eternal optimism. He always assumes the best in those around him, sometimes to the point of what others might see as foolishness. If there are multiple ways to interpret a statement that has been said, Jim will always choose the most positive meaning of it, and he even takes threats as positive criticism, like when the Red Plains Rider threatened to shoot a deputy badge off of him, were he to shine it during a fire fight. He told her that she'd be right to, as he should remember priorities. Jim approaches every situation that he's in with this same optimism, and it's infectious, to say the least. Jim is the type of person to treat every conversation, no matter how long or short, as though he were talking with an old friend, and he will treat the conversation as though it were the most important thing in his world at that given moment.
Third-Person Sample:
Jim leaned back in the chair at the local watering hole, an easy grin on his face. He had adjusted quite well to this new world of his, even this concept of ‘magic’ that his new job had given him. Shucks, it wasn’t really all that different than higher technology to him, and he’s had a lot of experience with coming to terms with that sort of thing in his life. It was almost second nature to him, at this point.
“Now Marshal, I do thank ya for your worryin’ about my adjustments to this new plane of existence. However, you needn’t have bothered yourself none with that, as this is not my first trip down to this particular rodeo.” He takes a swig of his bottle of whatever local brew they have at the bar, “Ya see, when I arrived in your time in the first place, I reckoned that those laser blasters and robot fists and the like were magic or something like that. So, I figured that I’d learn how to use ‘em, and not bother too much with the worry. Ya gotta learn to fit in where you’re put, take your licks, and not laugh about your mistakes later. That’s what I always did.”
He will motion to a chair at the table he’s sitting at, that easy grin still not leaving his face. Were it anyone else, the grin would probably be patronizing, but with Jim…it’s just completely genuine. He was happy that his best friend was worried about him and his adjustments, and didn’t think that there might be any spite behind it. “So come on and sit a spell with me, Nevada. I’ll take the first round. This Ol’ Grand-Moogle bourbon ain’t half bad.”
Mognet Sample:
Well howdy pardners,
You can just imagine my shock when I thought that I was going to be going back 500 years to one of my original times, and ended up in this place, being called a Hero of Light or something of that nature. Now, this sounds like it’s a title of utmost importance, so I plan on taking it completely seriously, and look forward to working with the rest of the Heroes of Light to make this place as safe and secure as I possibly can.
Sincerely,
Cactoid Jim

Limit Break: That Cloud Roping Cactoid Jim
Using the power of his own Legend, Cactoid Jim can throw his space lasso into the air, roping a nearby thunder cloud (or one that just appeared, in the case of him being indoors). Using the roped cloud, he will drag it close by, and then watch as a lighting bolt will strike the ground near his enemies, causing lightning damage to nearby foes.
